The Corrs - At Your Side (unplugged)

The Corrs is an Irish band that combines pop rock with traditional Celtic folk music. The group consists of the Corr siblings, Andrea (lead vocals, tin whistle); Sharon (violin, vocals); Caroline (drums, percussion, piano, bodhrán, vocals); and Jim (guitar, piano, keyboards, vocals). They are from Dundalk, Co. Louth, in Ireland.

The Corrs have released five studio albums and numerous singles, which have reached platinum in many countries.Talk on Corners, their most successful album to date, reached multi-platinum status in Australia, and in the UK it was the highest selling album of 1998.

The band is only the second act in history to hold the top two positions simultaneously in the UK album charts, with Talk on Corners at number one and Forgiven, Not Forgotten at number two. The first group to achieve this was The Beatles. Forgiven, Not Forgotten was the second highest selling album in Australia in 1996, behind Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. The Corrs' third studio album, In Blue, went to number one in seventeen countries.

The Corrs have been actively involved in philanthropic activities. They have performed in numerous charity concerts such as the Prince's Trust event in 2004 and Live 8 alongside Bono in 2005. The same year, they were awarded honorary MBEs for their contributions to music and charity.

The band is currently inactive because Jim and Caroline are raising families, while Andrea and Sharon are pursuing solo careers. Sharon doesn't know if The Corrs will get back together.

Steve Miller Band - The Joker (live from Chicago, 2009)

The Joker is a song by the Steve Miller Band from their 1973 album The Joker. It is one of two Steve Miller Band songs that feature the neologism "pompatus".

The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in early 1974.

More than 16 years later, in September 1990, it reached number one in the UK Singles Chart for two weeks after being used in "Great Deal", a Hugh Johnson-directed television advertisement for Levi's, thus holding the record for the longest gap between transatlantic chart-toppers. This reissue of "The Joker" also topped the Irish Singles Chart, the New Zealand RIANZ Singles Chart, the Dutch Nationale Top 100 and the Dutch Top 40.

The first line of the lyrics is a reference to the song "Space Cowboy" from Miller's Brave New World album. Following lines refer to two other songs: "Gangster of Love" from Sailor and "Enter Maurice" from Recall the Beginning...A Journey from Eden.

During the song, Steve Miller references the The Clovers' 1954 song "Lovey Dovey" when he sings "You're the cutest thing that I ever did see/ Really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree / Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time".

The song is noted for its wolf whistle played on a slide guitar after the "lovey dovey" parts and the "some people call me Maurice" part.

The line "some people call me Maurice / 'Cause I speak of the pompatus of love" was written after Miller heard the song "The Letter" by The Medallions. In "The Letter", writer Vernon Green made up the word puppetutes, meaning a secret erotic female paper-doll fantasy figure; however, Miller misheard the word and wrote pompitous instead.

In popular culture

The song appears in the twelfth episode of the second season of The Simpsons.

The song is mentioned at length in chapter 30 of the German novel Nachhinein by Lisa Kränzler.

The song is referenced in the 2011 Fountains of Wayne song "Radio Bar".

In the MMORPG DC Universe Online, the Joker (when played as a Legends character) will occasionally reference the song by saying, "Nobody calls me the space cowboy, or the gangster of love for that matter!"

Johnny Depp, playing the part of vampire Barnabas Collins, refers to The Joker in the 2012 film Dark Shadows. After telling his distant relative, Carolyn Stoddard, "I'm rather fond of the music of the day," Barnabas poetically recites the lines:

He gestures with his right hand during the recitation, and he reaches out with it on the last line. His fingertips sizzle and smoke when they enter the sunlight.

Joan Osborne - One of Us

One of Us is a song written by Eric Bazilian (of The Hooters) and originally released by Joan Osborne. Released in March 1995 on the album Relish and produced by Rick Chertoff, it became a top 40 hit in November of that year.

Bazilian discussed the song in an interview, saying "I wrote that song one night — the quickest song I ever wrote — to impress a girl. Which worked, because we’re married and have two kids. But we were in the middle of writing Joan’s album, which was a group effort with Rick Chertoff and Joan and Rob and I, and I did a demo of “One of Us,” this wacky little demo which I ended up putting as a hidden track on the CD of my first solo record, and I played [it] for them. And it really hadn’t even occurred to me that it was something that Joan might do, but Rick, in his wisdom, asked Joan if she thought she could sing it. And I think it was better that he asked it that way rather than “Do you want to sing it?” Because the answer to that might not have been yes. But she definitely said she could sing it, and we did a little live demo of a guitar and her singing it. And when I got into my car and popped the cassette in, I started practicing the Grammy speech that I should’ve gotten to give."

About lyrics

The song deals with various aspects of belief in God by asking questions inviting the listener to consider how they might relate to God, such as "Would you call [God's name] to his face?" or "Would you want to see [God's face] if seeing meant that you would have to believe in things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints and all the prophets?" The title of the song comes from religious statement, "What if God was one of us?"

The album version starts off with four lines from a Gospel music song "The Heavenly Airplane":

Directed by Mark Seliger and Fred Woodward, the video was mainly shot on Coney Island, with various attractions like rollercoasters, ferris wheels and the New York Aquarium shown, interchanged with the vintage-looking shots in sepia and Joan singing in front of the camera.

Patricia Kaas & Jeremy Irons - If You Go Away

If You Go Away is an adaptation of the 1959 Jacques Brel song "Ne me quitte pas" with English lyrics by Rod McKuen.

Created as part of a larger project to translate Brel's work, "If You Go Away" is considered a pop standard and has been recorded by many artists, including Greta Keller, for whom some say McKuen wrote the lyrics.

Damita Jo reached #10 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #68 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966 for her version of the song.

Terry Jacks recorded a version of the song which was released as a single in 1974 and reached #29 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #68 on the Billboard Hot 100, and went to #8 in the UK.

The complex melody is partly derivative of classical music - the poignant "But if you stay..." passage comes from Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6.

A sad but hopeful song, the lyrics are told from the perspective of someone telling their lover how much they'd be missed if they left. This is described in vivid, hyperbolic terms, such as "there'll be nothing left in the world to trust". If the lover stays, the narrator promises them both devotion and good times ("I'll make you a day / Like no day has been, or will be again"). Some lines show that the narrator is speaking to the lover as they already are leaving, or considering doing so ("Can I tell you now, as you turn to go..."). The lines "If you go, as I know you will" and later "...as I know you must" make clear that despite the narrator's protests, the lover's leaving is inevitable.

McKuen's translation is significantly different to the original Brel lyric. The English version is based around contrasting what would happen "if you go away" and what could happen "if you stay".

In the original French version, the singer begs for his lover not to leave him and is more supplicant and almost self-humiliating (the title "Ne me quitte pas" translates "Do not leave me").

Significant is the last image of the French version; although the McKuen version has lyrics that come close to the original sentiment, the French lyrics are far bleaker (as is the song in general): "Let me become the shadow of your shadow, the shadow of your hand, the shadow of your dog" (lit. translation of the original) as opposed to "I'd have been the shadow of your shadow if I thought it might have kept me by your side" (English lyrics).

The English version omits an interesting section of the original version in which the singer begs his lover to give their relationship a second chance, using examples derived from the natural world: "I will tell you of those lovers who saw their hearts catch fire twice;" "Fire has often been seen gushing out of an ancient volcano we thought too old"; "There are, people say, burnt lands that produce more wheat than the best of Aprils".

Bono feat. Mary J. Blige - Moment of Surrender (live, 2013)

Bono and Grammy-winning singer Mary J. Blige like performers at the Robin Hood Foundation’s 25th anniversary.

Moment of Surrender is a song by rock band U2 and the third track on their 2009 album No Line on the Horizon. During the initial recording sessions for the album in 2007 in Fez, Morocco, the band wrote the song with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois within a few hours. Together, they recorded the song in a single take; Eno called the song's recording "the most amazing studio experience [he's] ever had".

According to him and Lanois, the track is the closest the band came to realising their original concept for the album of writing "future hymns". The seven-minute song features gospel-like vocals in the chorus, along with a predominantly organ- and piano-based musical accompaniment. Lyrically, the song is about a drug addict who is undergoing a crisis of faith.

"Moment of Surrender" was praised by critics, many of whom called it one of the album's stand-out tracks. The song was compared to the group's earlier ballads "With or Without You" and "One". It was performed at all but two of the band's concerts on the U2 360° Tour, most often as the closing song. During performances, the stage lights were dimmed and fans were urged to hold up their mobile phones to create "a stadium full of tiny stars". Although it was not released as a single, Rolling Stone named "Moment of Surrender" the best song of 2009, and in 2010, they ranked it 160th on their list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

The song was played only once and received minor treatments afterwards, with the addition of a cello part in the introduction and some editing, which included removing a verse to reduce the song's length.

Eno was outraged that U2 wanted to shorten the song and he was adamant that the band not alter the original track too much, saying, "These fucking guys, they're supposed to be so spiritual—they don't spot a miracle when it hits them in the face. Nothing like that ever happened to me in the studio in my whole life."

The band's original concept for No Line on the Horizon was to create an album of future hymns—songs that would be played forever. According to Eno and Lanois, "Moment of Surrender" is the closest the band came to reaching that concept.

Confessa este un hit lansat anul trecut, în 2012, de Adriano Celentano. Clipul avea să stârnească pasiuni, furtuni… şi admiratie în rândul fanilor dar şi al criticilor.

Adriano Celentano s-a născut la Milano pe 6 ianuarie 1938, pe strada Gluck nr 14. Părinții săi erau din Foggia, dar se mutaseră în nord pentru a lucra. El și-a petrecut copilăria și adolescența la Milano, mutându-se cu familia în 1951 pe strada Correnti.

N-a terminat școala generală, ci a avut diferite ocupații, ultima fiind cea de ceasornicar. În aceeași perioadă a început să se intereseze de muzică, în special de rock 'n' roll pe care, la fel ca mulți alți tineri italieni, a început să o cunoască în 1955, odată cu ajungerea în Italia a filmului Blackboard Jungle (în italiană, Culoarea [samburele] violenței): pe coloana sonoră este un cântec intitulat "Rock Around the Clock", interpretat de un cântăreț pe atunci necunoscut încă în Italia, Bill Haley, acompaniat de formația sa "The Comets" și Celentano (ca și alti tineri) a rămas impresionat, hotărând să devină cântăreț de rock'n'roll.

Influențat puternic de idolul său Elvis Presley și de revoluția rock din anii 1950, mai este cunoscut și ca cel mai faimos dansator al dansului tip Hula.

În Italia a vândut milioane de discuri și a aparut în numeroase show-uri TV și filme. În ceea ce privește filmele, a fost de asemenea un creator al genului comic, cu mersul său caracteristic și expresiile sale faciale.

În general, filmele lui au avut succes la public; în anii 1970 și parțial în anii 1980, era regele încasărilor în Italia, în filmele cu buget redus.

Ca actor, cel mai mare suces a fost "Serafino" (1968), regizat de Pietro Germi.

Ca regizor de film, le-a distribuit în special pe Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi și pe soția sa, Claudia Mori.

El și Claudia au trei copii: Rosita Celentano, Rosalinda Celentano (cunoscută audienței mondiale pentru rolul său de Satan în filmul lui Mel Gibson, "The Passion of the Christ") și Giacomo Celentano. Acesta din urmă este de asemenea gazda mai multor show-uri tv italiene.

Adriano a scos 40 de albume: 29 albume de studio, 3 albume live și 8 compilații.

Cel mai cunoscut cântec al lui Celentano este "Azzurro", cu versuri de Paolo Conte, lansat în 1968 și copiat de multi muzicieni de atunci.

Adriano Celentano este vegetarian din 2005 si apără drepturile animalelor.

Până în prezent, artistul a vândut 70 de milioane de albume.

Les Valses de Vienne este un cântec din 1989 al artistului francez François Feldman.

Clipul acesta de pe Youtube conține și traducerea versurilor în limba română.

După lansare, cântecul a avut un succes imens în Franța fiind prezent două luni pe prima poziție a topurilor și rămânând până în ziua de azi cel mai cunoscut hit al lui Feldman și o piesă clasică a anilor 80 din muzica franceză.
