Blue October - The Chills (acoustic)

The Texas quintet Blue October formed during the post-grunge boom of the mid-'90s when vocalist/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld began penning angst-ridden rock songs with the help of his brother, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld, and violinist Ryan Delahoussaye.
Bassist Matt Noveskey and lead guitarist Brant Coulter completed the band's initial lineup, and Blue October released an independent debut album, The Answers, in 1998.
The band's emotive brand of post-grunge led to the sale of 5,000 copies in their native Houston alone.
Two years later, Blue October made their major-label debut on Universal with Consent to Treatment.
History for Sale By the time Blue October began prepping for their third album, 2003's History for Sale, guitarist Coulter had left the group and CB Hudson (guitar/vocals) had been added.
The band itself had also left Universal for Brando Records. The album's first single, "Calling You," became a Top 40 hit thanks to its inclusion on the American Wedding soundtrack, and Universal re-signed the band in the wake of such newfound success. The live CD/DVD package Argue with a Tree was released in February 2005, following 18 months of touring. Noveskey briefly left the band shortly thereafter, but returned in time to record Blue October's first studio album in three years, Foiled, which was issued in April 2006 and went platinum one year later.
Foiled for the Last Time Before the band went on tour with Yellowcard in September 2007, Universal/Motown released Foiled for the Last Time, a two-disc set consisting of a full version of Foiled, 14 newly recorded songs performed live, and several alternative remixes.
Recording sessions for another studio album, Approaching Normal, commenced in mid-2008 with producer Steve Lillywhite, and the finished product appeared early the following year.
Two albums appeared in 2011, Ugly Side: An Acoustic Evening with Blue October (recorded live in Austin, Dallas, and Houston) and Any Man in America.
The the group's seventh studio album, Sway, followed in 2013.
The lyrics:
Take my hand
Maybe we should run away
Maybe we should disappear
Leave everything behind

Like the useless things
Boxes labeled memories
The sudden health emergencies
Yeah we can leave those things behind

Show me,
Show me arms that reach for all we can be
Through understanding, tried forgiveness,
I faced the past,
It's what I witness

Why do I only feel the chills when I'm with you?
I only hear your words that you say are true
But you keep thinking it over, thinking it over
You could catch me if you wanted to

Why you gotta say good bye
When you know you could come with me....
"No!" Can't afford to leave and stay
(i cant' afford it)
We're gonna have to just build one way
(look , i cant afford it)

So tell me, tell me all the things
You told me we could be
Through understanding, tried forgiveness
I faced the facts,
It's what I witnessed

Why do I only feel the chills when I'm with you
I only hear your words that you say are true
But you keep thinking it over, thinking it over
catch me if you want

I only feel the chills when I'm with you
I feel it so high,
I feel it so high
Ca-Catch me, Ca-ca-catch me

"Why does the heart always have to break?"
(When you're trying way too hard)
"have to break?"
(Yeah she'll see right through you)
"have to break"
(All Communication, and the conversation, it breaks down)
"Now there'll be nothing to talk about"
Absolutely nothing just blah,blah,blah

Why do I only feel the chills when I'm with you?
I only hear the words that you say are true
But you keep thinking it over, thinking it over
You could catch me if you wanted to.

Catch me,

Ca-ca-catch me.

Kellie Pickler - Ring For Sale

This humorous story of love gone bad was penned by Jim Beavers and Chris Stapleton.
Kellie delivers line after line on the album The Woman I Am with palpable feeling and rich emotion. Belting it out on the swampy “Ring For Sale,” Kellie sings, I’ll throw in the dress for free, with fire when looking to get rid of a cheating man’s engagement ring.
"A girlfriend from home is going through this as we speak," Pickler told The Hollywood Reporter. "She had asked me in the middle of her whole divorce thing what she should do with the ring and I said, 'Sell it and go do something nice for yourself; I think you have earned that right considering what he has done.' So I heard that song and I played it for her and it made her smile. So I thought, I'm going to cut this for my friend. And when I sing it, I am going to be thinking of her, even though it's written in first person."
The lyrics:
Well he went down to the jewelry store and he signed his life away
I said yes and just like that he went from boyfriend to fiance'
Well I found out he been running around with a low class Jezebel
Now he's got a monthly payment and I got a ring for sale

I got a ring for sale
It's yellow gold with a princess diamond
I got a ring for sale
And I'm gonna let it go real cheap

I got a ring for sale
A blue box with the velvet on and
I gotta get out fore he finds out
And I'll throw in the dress for free

Well I thought about taking the highway and I thought about giving it back
And then I thought about all of them lowdown things that he's been doing behind my back
Now he can stop by and apologize if he thinks that's gonna help
But he's got another thing coming 'cause I got a ring for sale

I got a ring for sale
It's yellow gold with a princess diamond
I got a ring for sale
And I'm gonna let it go real cheap

I got a ring for sale
A blue box with the velvet on and
I gotta get out fore he finds out
And I'll throw in the dress for free

Well I'll burn the invitations, return the decorations
Took the hold off the Baptist church
I love to hit him so I'm gonna hit him
And I'll hit him right where it hurts
I'm gonna hit him right where it hurts

I got a ring for sale
It's yellow gold with a princess diamond
I got a ring for sale
And I'm gonna let it go real cheap

I got a ring for sale
A blue box with the velvet on and
I gotta get out fore he finds out
And I'll throw in the dress for free

I gotta get out fore he finds out
And I'll throw in the dress for free

I got a ring for sale

Scorpions with Johannes Strate - Rock You Like a Hurricane (unplugged)

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" is a song by the German heavy metal band Scorpions.
The song was released as the second track of their 1984 album Love at First Sting.
Ultimate Classic Rock is pleased to present the record video of a dramatically re-imagined version of one of the Scorpions‘ most well-known classics, ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane,’ taken from their ‘MTV Unplugged’ performance.
When the German legends announced their intentions to say farewell, they quickly found that there were quite a few fans (and many new ones) who weren’t ready to say goodbye. Singer Klaus Meine told us recently, “It’s playing in front of a whole new rock audience and so many new Scorpions fans that are seeing us on this tour for the very first time. I guess it’s because of YouTube — wherever we play in the world, you can see parts of the show on YouTube and this is what brings us a whole new audience into the concerts.”
As it turns out, the group wasn’t prepared to hang things up either.
The concert was filmed in September 2013 over two nights in Athens, Greece and as guitarist Rudolf Schenker told Ultimate Classic Rock, it was an event that was a long time coming.
“We had the offer already in the late-‘80s to do ‘MTV Unplugged,’” he said. “But we were so busy traveling around the world and playing everywhere [that] we had to say no. Which was great, because now we had the possibility after our worldwide success [to do it right], working things out with the right team, Martin [Hansen] and Mikael [Nord Andersson], the two producers from Sweden.”
The Lycabettus Theater in Athens provided a perfect setting for the show. “It’s on the highest mountain in Greece,” Schenker shared. “We played there [about] 10 years ago and we know just how great the feeling is. It’s an unbelievable atmosphere there.”
Once they had determined the setting for the concert, there were still quite a few things to work out, Schenker reveals. “We had actually 40 different songs in our pipeline when we were working on different arrangements. Since we already did an acoustic album in 2001 in Lisboa, we said to our record company, ‘Okay, we’re doing the ‘MTV Unplugged,’ but without ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane,’ ‘Wind Of Change’ and ‘Still Loving You,’ which we did already on ‘Acoustica ‘in 2001.”
But their record company, naturally, was not too happy with the idea of leaving off their biggest hits, so the band decided to drastically re-work ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane,’ and found themselves with several options. “We had four different arrangements in our pipeline for that,” said Schenker. “But in the end, this was the winner and the good thing about it is that the people don’t know in the beginning which song it is! That makes the whole thing full of tension, Because the people are going ‘What’s this? I never heard that!’ Same thing with ‘Blackout’ and ‘Hit Between The Eyes,’ they are old songs where you don’t know when the guitar is starting [what song it is].”
So was it fun? We had to ask Schenker how much of a challenge it was for him to unplug as a guitarist and he had some colorful thoughts on the subject.
“I’m a complete rock guitar bastard,” he says. “You know, I love the rock guitar like crazy. That’s because the Scorpions as a band played eighty percent rock stuff on the albums and twenty percent ballads. It was already a little bit close to the acoustic guitars [we used] composing ‘Holiday’ or ‘When The Smoke Is Going Down’ and stuff like that. In this case, one of the producers, Mikael Nord Andersson, is a very good acoustic guitar player.”
“To work with him was a lot of fun. He was showing us a lot of tricks with open tuning and he was showing us how ‘Kashmir’ and some other stuff from Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page was done. It sounded very complicated, but in the end, if you have the right tuning, it sounds very easy. [Laughs] So in this case, it was a lot of fun to really go into the acoustic guitar in a different way — to see the other side of the acoustic guitar.”
The lyrics:
It's early morning
The sun comes out
Last night was shaking
And pretty loud
My cat is purring
And scratches my skin
So what is wrong
With another sin
The bitch is hungry
She needs to tell
So give her inches
And feed her well
More days to come
New places to go
I've got to leave
It's time for a show

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane

My body is burning
It starts to shout
Desire is coming
It breaks out loud
Lust is in cages
Till storm breaks loose
Just have to make it
With someone I choose
The night is calling
I have to go
The wolf is hungry
He runs the show
He's licking his lips
He's ready to win
On the hunt tonight
For love at first sting

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane

Scorpions - Still Loving You (MTV Unplugged, Live In Athens, 2013)

Still Loving You is a power ballad by Scorpions from their 1984 album Love at First Sting. It was the second single of the album, reaching #64 on Billboard Hot 100.
In France, the single sold 1.7 million copies.
The music video was released in July 1984, and was filmed in Dallas, Texas at Reunion Arena.
In an interview with Songfacts, Rudolf Schenker explained "It's a story about a love affair, where they recognized it may be over, but let's try again".
The song is also considered a thinly veiled metaphor for a still divided Eastern & Western Germany. "Your pride has built a wall so strong that I can't get through, is there really no chance to start once again?" and "Yes I've hurt your pride and I know, what you've been through, you should give me a chance, this can't be the end, I'm still loving you" were clear references to the Berlin Wall and the despair many Germans felt about their divided homeland.
A remixed version of the studio album version was included on the album Still Loving You in 1992. The remixed version was also released as a single in Germany and some other European countries.
The band has also re-recorded the song twice, with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000 for the album Moment of Glory and an acoustic re-working for the album Acoustica in 2001.
Matthias Jabs' guitar soloing is prominent throughout, but the main solo played in the outro is by Rudolf Schenker.
Other versions
The song appears on the Scorpions' 1985 live double-album World Wide Live.
A remixed version of the studio album version was included on the album Still Loving You in 1992. The remixed version was also released as a single in Germany and some other European countries.
The song was later recorded on Scorpions' 2001 album Acoustica.
A version of the song was recorded for Scorpions' 2011 album Comeblack featuring Amandine Bourgeois.
A Romanian version was recorded by Mihaela Runceanu in 1989 entitled "Eu Nu Te-am Uitat".
It was covered by Finnish power metal band Sonata Arctica on their 2000 EP Successor.
The Alex Skolnick Trio recorded a bebop version of the song on their 2002 album Goodbye to Romance: Standards for a New Generation.
Swedish group Tyskarna från Lund released a cover of the song on their album Metamorphobia in 2003.
Finnish pop/jazz/folk band Korpi Ensemble covered the song on their album Trails in 2007.
It was covered by Steve Whiteman of Kix and George Lynch of Dokken and appears on Lynch's 2008 album Scorpion Tales.
In 2008, Ecuadorian band Corvus recorded a Spanish version called "Aun te amo" on their album En tu asusencia, preserving their hard rock style.
A Brazilian version was recorded by Cleiton e Camargo entitled "Meu Anjo Azul".
The lyrics:
Time, it needs time
To win back your love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, only love
Can bring back your love someday
I will be there, I will be there

I´ll fight, babe, I´ll fight
To win back your love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, only love
Can break down the wall someday
I will be there, I will be there

If we´d go again
All the way from the start
I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Your pride has built a wall, so strong
That I can´t get through
Is there really no chance
To start once again
I´m loving you

Try, baby try
To trust in my love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, our love
Just shouldn´t be thrown away
I will be there, I will be there

If we´d go again
All the way from the start
I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Your pride has built a wall, so strong
That I can´t get through
Is there really no chance
To start once again

If we´d go again
All the way from the start
I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Yes, I´ve hurt your pride, and I know
What you´ve been through
You should give me a chance
This can´t be the end
I´m still loving you
I´m still loving you, I need your love

I´m still loving you

Chris Isaak - Wicked Game

Wicked Game is a 1989 song by Chris Isaak from his third studio album Heart Shaped World.
Despite being released as a single in 1989, it did not become a hit until it was later featured in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart (1990). Lee Chesnut, an Atlanta radio station music director who loved David Lynch films, began playing the song and it quickly became a nationwide top ten hit in January 1991, reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the first hit song of his career. James Calvin Wilsey played the distinctive lead guitar solo on the song.
The song is written in the mode of B Dorian. Through several years, many different versions and arrangements of the song were made before the final version was released. Both the bassline and drums (except the cymbals) were sampled from previous recordings of the song and then looped.
The song is a ballad about unrequited love, performed in what Allmusic describes as a "brooding, sorrowfully conflicted" tone.
Use in popular culture
The song was used in the 1989 film The Preppie Murder director by John Herzfeld
The song was used as a theme for supercouple Jack and Jennifer in the soap opera Days of our Lives.
The song was used in the Brett Ratner film, The Family Man, the Ridley Scott film, Matchstick Men, and the David Lynch film, Wild at Heart; each starring Nicolas Cage.
The song was used in two episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 "One Man and a Baby" from Season 1 and "Wildfire" from Season 2. It was also used in its spin-off 90210 in the season 3 episode "How Much Is That Liam in the Window".
The song was used in two episodes of Friends Season 2; "The One with the Prom Video" (2x14) and "The One Where Ross And Rachel...You Know" (2x15).
In Flight of the Conchords, the character Dave states that "Women like three things: Men in Kilts, Southern Comfort and Chris Isaak's Wicked Game."
The song was used in The Mentalist in the Season 4 Finale, "The Crimson Hat".
The song was used in the 1992 film Leaving Normal directed by Edward Zwick.
The song has been used in the soap operas The Young and the Restless, One Life to Live and General Hospital.
The master recording song was featured in Konami's rebooted version of their singing video game called Karaoke Revolution.
The song is covered by Pink on her 2013 tour, The Truth About Love Tour.
The song is covered by Phillip Phillips and available on the deluxe edition of his debut album, The World from the Side of the Moon.
John Pritchard auditioned with the song on The Voice UK (series 2) in 2013, and will.i.am turned his chair to become his coach.
The song is covered by Emika and available on her second album, Dva.
A cover of the song by Coves was also used in 2013 in the trailers for the BBC TV series The White Queen`.
The lyrics:
The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you.

No, I don't want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)

What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you.
What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you and,

I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you.

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do.
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you.
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you,

No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)
No, I... (This world is only gonna break your heart)
(This world is only gonna break your heart)

Nobody loves no one.

The Corrs - At Your Side (unplugged)

The Corrs is an Irish band that combines pop rock with traditional Celtic folk music. The group consists of the Corr siblings, Andrea (lead vocals, tin whistle); Sharon (violin, vocals); Caroline (drums, percussion, piano, bodhrán, vocals); and Jim (guitar, piano, keyboards, vocals). They are from Dundalk, Co. Louth, in Ireland.
The Corrs have released five studio albums and numerous singles, which have reached platinum in many countries.Talk on Corners, their most successful album to date, reached multi-platinum status in Australia, and in the UK it was the highest selling album of 1998.
The band is only the second act in history to hold the top two positions simultaneously in the UK album charts, with Talk on Corners at number one and Forgiven, Not Forgotten at number two. The first group to achieve this was The Beatles. Forgiven, Not Forgotten was the second highest selling album in Australia in 1996, behind Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. The Corrs' third studio album, In Blue, went to number one in seventeen countries.
The Corrs have been actively involved in philanthropic activities. They have performed in numerous charity concerts such as the Prince's Trust event in 2004 and Live 8 alongside Bono in 2005. The same year, they were awarded honorary MBEs for their contributions to music and charity.
The band is currently inactive because Jim and Caroline are raising families, while Andrea and Sharon are pursuing solo careers. Sharon doesn't know if The Corrs will get back together.
The lyrics:
When the daylight's gone and you're on your own
And you need a friend just to be around
I will comfort you, I will take your hand
And I'll pull you through, I will understand
And you know that

I'll be at your side
There's no need to worry
Together we'll survive
Through the haste and hurry
I'll be at your side
When you feel like you're alone
Or you've nowhere to turn
I'll be at your side

If life's standing still and your soul's confused
And you cannot find what road to choose
If you make mistakes you won't let me down
I will still believe I will turn around
And you know that

I'll be at your side
There's no need to worry
Together we'll survive
Through the haste and hurry
I'll be at your side
If you feel like you're alone
And you've nowhere to turn
I'll be at your side
I'll be at your side

I'll be at your side
There's no need to worry
Together we'll survive
Through the haste and hurry
I'll be at your side
If you feel like you're alone
You've got somewhere to go
'Coz I'm at your side

I'll be at your side
I'll be right there
I'll be at your side
I'll be right there
