Bob Dylan - Dignity (unplugged)

Dignity is a song by Bob Dylan, first released on Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Volume 3 in 1994.
It was recorded during the Oh Mercy studio sessions but didn't make it on to the album. The version released on Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Volume 3 was remixed and overdubbed by Brendan O'Brien (who also played organ on the song on MTV Unplugged the same year). A new rhythm track was recorded and electric guitar and organ were added to the mix. The slide guitar from the original mix was mixed out.
Live versions of the song can be heard on Live 1961-2000: Thirty-Nine Years of Great Concert Performances and MTV Unplugged. A demo-version of the song was included as part of a six-song sampler in promo editions of Chronicles Vol. 1. This demo version along with another version of the song were later released on Dylan's The Bootleg Series Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs in 2008.
The song was covered, with some modified lyrics, by R&B artist Mozez on his upcoming album The Absolute.
The lyrics:
Fat man lookin' in a blade of steel
Thin man lookin' at his last meal
Hollow man lookin' in a cottonfield
For dignity

Wise man lookin' in a blade of grass
Young man lookin' in the shadows that pass
Poor man lookin' through painted glass
For dignity

Somebody got murdered on New Year's Eve
Somebody said dignity was the first to leave
I went into the city, went into the town
Went into the land of the midnight sun

Searchin' high, searchin' low
Searchin' everywhere I know
Askin' the cops wherever I go
Have you seen dignity?

Blind man breakin' out of a trance
Puts both his hands in the pockets of chance
Hopin' to find one circumstance
Of dignity

I went to the wedding of Mary-lou
She said she don't want nobody see me talkin' to you?
Said she could get killed if she told me what she knew
About dignity

I went down where the vultures feed
I would've got deeper, but there wasn't any need
Heard the tongues of angels and the tongues of men
Wasn't any difference to me

Chilly wind sharp as a razor blade
House on fire, debts unpaid
Gonna stand at the window, gonna ask the maid
Have you seen dignity?

Drinkin' man listens to the voice he hears
In a crowded room full of covered up mirrors
Lookin' into the lost forgotten years
For dignity

Met Prince Phillip at the home of the blues
Said he'd give me information if his name wasn't used
He wanted money up front, said he was abused
By dignity

Footprints runnin' cross the sliver sand
Steps goin' down into tattoo land
I met the sons of darkness and the sons of light
In the bordertowns of despair

Got no place to fade, got no coat
I'm on the rollin' river in a jerkin' boat
Tryin' to read a note somebody wrote
About dignity

Sick man lookin' for the doctor's cure
Lookin' at his hands for the lines that were
And into every masterpiece of literature
for dignity

Englishman stranded in the blackheart wind
Combin' his hair back, his future looks thin
Bites the bullet and he looks within
For dignity

Someone showed me a picture and I just laughed
Dignity never been photographed
I went into the red, went into the black
Into the valley of dry bone dreams

So many roads, so much at stake
So many dead ends, I'm at the edge of the lake
Sometimes I wonder what it's gonna take
To find dignity

Doro feat. Lemmy Kilmister - Love Me Forever (live, 2003)

Doro Pesch is a German hard rock singer that started her career in native Düsseldorf in the early 80s with the underground bands Snakebite and Beast. In 1982, she joined the German heavy metal band Warlock, which got its first contract with the Belgian independent label Mausoleum Records to record the album Burning the Witches. The new band quickly entered the circuit of the most sought-after support bands in the European boiling panorama of metal live shows of the 80s, receiving enthusiastic reviews and gaining a solid fan base. Warlock soon stepped up to main attraction on European tours and their albums, issued under the Vertigo label, sold well in Germany and caught the attention of US promoters, who organized a tour in the United States. Their fourth album Triumph and Agony was produced in the US and entered the Billboard 200 chart, thanks also to the videos of the songs "All We Are" and "Für Immer" on rotation on MTV. By 1988, all German members of the band, except Doro, were replaced by American musicians and Warlock ceased to exist, because of legal problems about the rights on the name and logo.
Doro started her solo recording career with the album Force Majeure, fulfilling her contract with the Vertigo label until 1995 with other four studio albums. Because of the lack of charting success, her second Gene Simmons' produced eponymous album in 1990 was the last one issued in the USA until Calling the Wild, ten years after. However, Doro's albums always charted in Germany and other European countries, with very good sales of singles in recent years both in Germany and in Spain. The 2004 album Classic Diamonds was a collaboration with The Classic Night Orchestra, which reworked some of her earlier songs with symphonic and acoustic arrangements. Doro is now a very respected veteran singer in the heavy metal world and she often features in duets with other singers and bands.
The compilation Rare Diamonds of 1991 has songs from both Warlock albums and Doro’s first albums and is listed twice.
The lyrics:
Love me forever, or not at all,
End of our tether, backs to the wall,
Give me your hand, don't you ever ask why,
Promise me nothing, live 'til we die,

Everything changes, it all stays the same,
Everyone guilty, no one to blame,
Every way out, brings you back to the start,
Everyone dies to break somebody's heart,

We are the system, we are the law,
We are corruption, worm in the core,
One of another, laugh 'til you cry,
Faith unto death or a knife in the eye,

Everything changes, it all stays the same,
Everyone guilty, no one to blame,
Every way out, brings you back to the start,
Everyone dies to break somebody's heart,

Love me or leave me, tell me no lies,
Ask me no questions, send me no spies,
You know love's a thief, steal your heart in the night,
Slip through your fingers, you best hold on tight.

Everything changes, it all stays the same,
Everyone guilty, no one to blame,
Every way out, brings you back to the start,
Everyone dies to break somebody's heart

Depeche Mode - Somebody

Somebody is the first single with Martin Gore as lead vocals, one of only three.
The music videos for both songs were directed by Clive Richardson.
"Somebody", which was sung by Martin L. Gore in the studio in the nude, includes one of Gore's "little twists," where the song builds as if it's a song about finding your perfect love, only to have him reveal at the end "though things like this make me sick / in a case like this I'll get away with it.
The lyrics:
I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who'll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She'll get my support
She will listen to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my views may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She'll hear me out
And won't easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she'll often disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me
Aaaahhhhh....

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought
With every breath
Someone who'll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don't want to be tied
To anyone's strings
I'm carefully trying to steer clear of
Those things
But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I'll get away with it
And in a place like this
I'll get away with it
Aaaahhhhh....

Taylor Dayne - Love Will Lead You Back (live)

Love Will Lead You Back is a song performed by Taylor Dayne. Released as the second single from Dayne's second album Can't Fight Fate (following the more uptempo "With Every Beat of My Heart"), the ballad debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on January 27, 1990.
It reached number one on April 7 that same year and spent 15 weeks in the Top 40.
It also reached number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and was certified Gold in the U.S. by the RIAA.
The song was covered by Brazilian singer Sandra de Sá, by Filipina singers Kyla and Nina, by Mexican pop singer Yuri for her 1990 Soy Libre LP, and Australian pop group Young Divas. In 2000, Grammy Award winning artist Patti LaBelle covered the composition for her album, When A Woman Loves.
On American Idol it has been covered three times, by Carmen Rasmusen (season 2), Mikalah Gordon (season 4) and Karen Rodriguez (season 10). All three were eliminated the next night after their performances of that song.
The lyrics:
Saying goodbye is never an easy thing
But you never said, that you'd stay forever
So if you must go
Well, darlin', I'll set you free
But I know in time
That we'll be together
Oh, I won't try
To stop you now from leaving
Cause in my heart I know

(chorus)
Love will lead you back
Someday I just know that
Love will lead you back to my arms
Where you belong
I'm sure, sure as stars are shining
One day you will find me again
It won't be long
One of these days
Our love will lead you back

One of these nights
Well I'll hear your voice again
You're gonna say, oh, how much you miss me
You walked out this door
But someday you'll walk back in
Oh, darling I know
Oh, I know this will be
Sometimes it takes, sometime out on your own now
To find your way back home

(repeat chorus)

But I won't try to stop you now from leaving
Cause in my heart I know...oh yeah

(repeat chorus)

Love will lead you back
Someday I just know that
Love will lead you back to my arms
It won't be long
One of these days
Our love will lead you back

Terence Trent D'Arby - Sign Your Name

Sign Your Name is the name of a famous song written and performed by Terence Trent D'Arby (now known as Sananda Maitreya).
Released in his 1987 album Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, it was an international success, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart in early 1988 and number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The song has been covered by several other artists, such as Michael Bolton, Marina Lima, Elliott Yamin, The Dead Science, Human Nature, Night Shift, George Michael, Lexington Bridge, The Flying Pickets, The House Jacks, Cass & Slide, Peter Andre, Joana Zimmer for her 3rd album Showtime, Maria Lawson (B-side of "Breaking Me Down") and Kevin Lyttle.
In 2010, Australian actor/singer Jason Donovan recorded a cover version of "Sign Your Name" for his 1980s covers album Soundtrack of the 80s.
The lyrics:
Fortunately you have got
someone who relies on you
we started out as friends
but the thought of you just caves me in
the synptoms are so deep
it is much to late to turn away
we started out as friends

CHORUS
Sign your name
across my heart
i want you to be my baby
Sign your name
across my heart
i want you to be my lady

Time i'm sure will bring
disappointments in so many things
it seems to be the way
when your gambling cards on love you play
i'd rather be in hell with you baby
than in cool heaven
it seems to be the way

CHORUS

Birds never look intothe sun
before the day is done
but oh the light shines brighter
on a peaceful day
stranger blue leave us alone
we don't want to deal with you
we'll shed our stains showering
in the room that makes the rain

All alone with you
makes the butterflies in me arise
slowly we make love
and the earth rotates
to our dictates
slowly we make love

Sheryl Crow ft. Sting - Always On Your Side

Always on Your Side is a song by American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, and is featured on her 2005 album, Wildflower.
It was released as the second single from the album (see 2006 in music). While the original album version features only herself on lead vocals, the radio version is a duet with British musician Sting.
The song debuted at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and stayed inside the Billboard Hot 100 for 8 weeks), her third highest debut ever. The single also peaked in the top 20 of the UK airplay chart, while the single debuted and peaked at No. 8. The single also hit at #2 on the Canadian Singles Chart.
Sheryl Crow's Web site offered a free download of the new single to anyone who had already purchased the Wildflower-album. A subsequent edition of the parent album features the duet version.
The duet received a Grammy Award-nomination in 2007 as Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
The song was used as the theme for the 2006 telenovela Desire on the MyTV Network.
The lyrics:
My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away
But every now and then you come to mind
'Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game
But when your name was called, you found a place to hide
When you knew that I was always on your side

Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent
But your demons and your angels reappeared
Leavin' all the traces of the man you thought you'd be
Leavin' me with no place left to go from here
Leavin' me so many questions all these years

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally
This isn't how it's really meant to be
No it isn't how it's really meant to be

Well they say that love is in the air, but never is it clear,
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away
And I'm left to carry on and wonder why
Even through it all, I'm always on your side

But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are we left to wonder, all alone, eternally
But is this how it's really meant to be
No is it how it's really meant to be

Well if they say that love is in the air, never is it clear
How to pull it close and make it stay
If butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why
Was it you that kept me wondering through this life
When you know that I was always on your side

The Cranberries - Just My Imagination

Just My Imagination is an acoustic pop song by Irish band The Cranberries.
It is the third single from the band's fourth album, Bury the Hatchet, released in 1999.
A music video, directed by Phil Harder, was released to promote the single.
The Cranberries sing this song in Charmed, episode She's a Man, Baby, a Man! (season 2).
The lyrics:
There was a game we used to play
We would hit the town on friday night
And stay in bed until sunday
We used to be so free
We were living for the love we had and
Living not for reality

It was just my imagination x3
There was a time I used to pray
I have always kept my faith in love
It's the greatest thing from the man above
The game I used to play
I've always put my cards upon the table
Let it never be said that I'de unstable

It was just my imagination x3

There is a game I like to play
I like to hit the town on friday night
And stay in bed until sunday
We'll always be this free
We will be living for the love we have
Living not for reality

It's not my imagination x3
Not my x18

Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane

Cowboy Junkies are a Canadian alternative country/blues/folk rock band. The group was formed in Toronto in 1985 by Margo Timmins (vocalist), Michael Timmins (songwriter, guitarist), Peter Timmins (drummer) and Alan Anton (bassist).
The Junkies first performed publicly at the Beverley Tavern and other clubs in Toronto's Queen Street West, including The Rivoli. Their 1986 debut album, produced by Canadian producer Peter Moore, was the blues-inspired Whites Off Earth Now!!, recorded using an ambisonic microphone in the family garage.
The group's fame spread with their second album, The Trinity Session, recorded in 1987 at Toronto's Church of the Holy Trinity. Their sound, again using the ambisonic microphone, and their mix of blues, country, folk, rock and jazz earned them both critical attention and a cult following. The Los Angeles Times named the recording as one of the ten best albums of 1988.
The band was nominated for Group of the Year at the Juno Awards in 1990 and 1991. In the early 1990s Margo Timmins was named "one of the fifty most beautiful people in the world" by People Magazine. The group has continued to tour North America, Europe, Japan and Australia with extensive North American and European tours following album releases in 2002 and 2004.
In 2008, they released Trinity Revisited in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original recording of The Trinity Session
The lyrics:
Anyone who's ever had a heart
Wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Wouldn't turn around and hate it

Sweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
You're waiting
For Jimmy down in the alley
Waiting there
For him to come back home
Waiting down on the corner
And thinking of ways
To get back home

Sweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
Anyone who's ever had a dream
Anyone who's ever played a part
Anyone who's ever been lonely
And anyone who's ever split apart

Sweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
Heavenly widened roses
Seem to whisper to me
When you smile
Heavenly widened roses
Seem to whisper to me
When you smile

La la la la, la la la,

Sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane

Anyone who's ever had a heart
Wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Wouldn't turn around and hate it

Sweet Jane

You're waiting for Jimmy down in the alley
Waiting there for him to come back home
Waiting down on the corner
And thinkin' of ways to get back home

Sweet Jane

Heavenly wine and roses
Seem to aspire to me
When you smile

Sweet Jane
Cowboy Junkies (Original version by Lou Reed).
