He has composed and produced film scores for eight films, including Local Hero (1983), Cal (1984), The Princess Bride (1987), and Wag the Dog (1997).
In addition to his work with Dire Straits and as a solo artist and composer, Knopfler has recorded and performed with many prominent musicians, including Chet Atkins, Chris Botti, The Chieftains, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bryan Ferry, Emmylou Harris, Jools Holland, Sonny Landreth, Van Morrison, Steely Dan, Sting, and James Taylor, sometimes working as a session musician. He has produced albums for Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, and Randy Newman.

A four-time Grammy Award winner, Knopfler is the recipient of the Edison Award, the Steiger Award and the Ivor Novello Award, as well as holding three honorary doctorate degrees in music from universities in the United Kingdom.
The lyrics:
True love will never fade
True love will never fade
True love will never fade
True love will never fade
True love will never fade

I wonder if there's no forever
No walking hand in hand
Down a yellow brick road
To never never land

These days I get to where I'm going
Make it there eventually
Follow the trail of breadcrumbs
To where I'm meant to be
To where I'm meant to be

I don't know what brought you to me
That was up to you
There's so many come to see me
Who want their own tattoo

I fixed a needle in a holder
Laid my hand upon your spine
And there upon your shoulder
I drew the picture as your sign

When I think about us
I see the picture that we made
The picture to remind us
True love will never fade

True love will never fade
True love will never fade
True love will never fade

I worked the rowdies and day trippers
Now and then I think of you
Any which way we're all shufflin'
Forward in the queue

They like to move my operation
They like to get me off the pier
And I dream I'm on a steamer
Pullin' outta here

When I think about us
I see a picture that we made
The picture to remind us
True love will never fade

True love will never fade
True love will never fade
True love will never fade
True love will never fade

True love will never fade

Carpenters - Top Of The World (Live at the White House)

Live at the White House for President, Richard Nixon and visiting West German chancellor Willy Brandt.(May 1973).
Richard Carpenter wrote this with John Bettis, a lyricist who wrote the words to several Carpenters' hits as well as Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" and The Pointer Sisters' "Slow Hand."
This originally showed up on the multi-platinum album A Song For You in June 1972.
The song was released as a single in Japan in 1972 and went gold. At the same time, Country artist Lynn Anderson ("I Never Promised You A Rose Garden") covered it and her version reached #1 on the Country charts.
Finally in September 1973, the Carpenters released the song as a single in the US and UK due to popular demand. It shot straight to #1 and became one of their best known hits.
In Japan, the song was used as the opening theme song for the 1995 Japanese drama Miseinen.
In 2003, it was used for another drama, this time as the ending theme song for Beginner.
It appeared on the 2010 soundtrack of Shrek Forever After, as well as in a prominent scene of the 2012 film Dark Shadows, with a performance by the Carpenters seen on a television screen.
The lyrics:
Such a feelings coming over me
There is wonder in most every thing I see
Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream

Everything I want the world to be
Is now coming true especially for me
And the reason is clear, it's because you are here
You're the nearest thing to Heaven that I've seen

I'm on the top of the world looking down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world

Something in the wind has learned my name
And it's telling me that things are not the same
In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze
There's a pleasing sense of happiness for me

There is only one wish on my mind
When this day is through I hope that I will find
That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me
All I need will be mine if you are here

I'm on the top of the world looking down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world

I'm on the top of the world lookingdown on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
Your love's put me at the top of the world

Bryan Adams - Star

"Star" is a song co-written and recorded by Canadian rock artist Bryan Adams.
It was released in November 1996 as the third and final single from the album, 18 til I Die.
The song was utilized as the theme song for the 1996 film Jack starring Academy Award winner Robin Williams.
The lyrics:
What cha gonna be when you grow up?
What cha gonna do when your time is up?
What cha gonna say when things go wrong?
What cha gonna do when you're on your own?

There's a road, long and winding
The lights are blindin' but it gets there
Don't give up, don't look back
There's a silver linin', it's out there somewhere

Everybody wants an answer, everybody needs a friend
We all need a shinin' star on which we can depend
So tonight we're gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before
(What cha gonna be when you grow up?)
Find what you're looking for
(What cha gonna do when your time is up?)

There'll be times in your life
Yeah, when you' be dancin' an' shit but you ain't gettin' it
Don't get disillusioned, no, don't expect too much
'Cuz if what you have is all you can get
Just keep on tryin' it, just ain't happened yet

Everybody wants to be winner, everybody has a dream
We all need a shinin' star when things ain't what they seem
So tonight we're gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before
(What cha gonna be when you grow up?)
Gotta get where you're headed for
(What cha gonna do when your time is up?)
Oh yeah

Ooh, everybody wants some kindness, everybody needs a break
We all need a shinin' star when things get hard to take
So tonight we're gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before
(What cha gonna be when you grow up?)
Yeah, tonight we're gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before

What cha gonna be when you grow up?
What cha gonna do when your time is up?
(Gotta find what you're looking for)
What cha gonna say when things go wrong?
(So don't get disillusioned)

What cha gonna do when you're on your own?
(No, don't expect too much)
What cha gonna be when you grow up?
(Yeah)
What cha gonna do when your time is up?
([Incomprehensible] babe)

What cha gonna say when things go wrong?
What cha gonna be when you grow up?

What cha gonna do when your time is up?

The Beatles - With a Little Help From My Friends

"With a Little Help from My Friends" (originally titled "A Little Help from My Friends") is a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, released on The Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967.
It was ranked No. 311 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Lennon and McCartney finished writing this song in mid-March 1967, written specifically as Starr's track for the album.
McCartney said: "It was pretty much co-written, John and I doing a work song for Ringo, a little craft job."
In 1970 Lennon stated: "Paul had the line about 'a little help from my friends.' He had some kind of structure for it, and we wrote it pretty well fifty-fifty from his original idea.", but in 1980 Lennon said: "This is Paul, with a little help from me. 'What do you see when you turn out the light/ I can't tell you, but I know it's mine...' is mine."
It was briefly called "Bad Finger Boogie" (later the inspiration for the band name Badfinger), supposedly because Lennon composed the melody on a piano using his middle finger after having hurt his forefinger.
Lennon and McCartney deliberately wrote a tune with a limited range – except for the last note, which McCartney worked closely with Starr to achieve.
Speaking in the Anthology, Starr insisted on changing the first line which originally was "What would you think if I sang out of tune? Would you throw ripe tomatoes at me?" He changed the lyric so that fans would not throw tomatoes at him should he perform it live. (In the early days, after George Harrison made a passing comment that he liked jelly babies, the group was showered with them at all of their live performances.)
The song's composition is unusually well documented as Hunter Davies was present and described the writing process in the Beatles' official biography.
The song is partly in the form of a conversation, in which the other three Beatles sing a question "Would you believe in a love at first sight?" and Starr answers, "Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time."
The band started recording the song the day before they posed for the Sgt. Pepper album cover (29 March 1967), wrapping up the session at 5:45 in the morning.
At dawn, Starr trudged up the stairs to head home – but the other Beatles cajoled him into doing his lead vocal then and there, standing around the microphone for moral support.
The lyrics:
What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

What do I do when my love is away
Does it worry you to be alone?
How do I feel by the end of the day
Are you sad because you're on your own?

No, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody?
I need somebody to love
Could it be anybody?
I want somebody to love

Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes, I'm certain that it happens all the time
What do you see when you turn out the light?
I can't tell you but I know it's mine

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, get by with a little help from my friends
Oh, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody?
I just need someone to love
Could it be anybody?
I want somebody to love

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends
Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Yes, I get high with a little help from my friends

With a little help from my friends

Robbie Williams - Feel

"Feel" is a song by British singer-songwriter Robbie Williams. It was released on December 2, 2002 as the lead single from his fifth studio album, Escapology.
The song became an international hit, reaching the top of the charts in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, and top five positions in countries such as Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Background
"Feel" was written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers.
According to Williams, most of the vocals are from the original demo recording, as he felt unsatisfied with the re-recorded vocals. He commented, "I just couldn't sing it as well as I did on that day."
Music video
The video shows Williams in a cowboy-like lifestyle. It gained some attention in the United States thanks to Daryl Hannah's appearance as Williams' love interest.
There were two versions of the same video, one shot in black and white and the other in colour.
In popular culture - Television
The song was featured in Cathay Pacific's 2009-2010 advertisement campaign.
A custom-made instrumental version of the song is also produced in promotion for the airline's new Business Class seats on its website.
The lyrics:
Come on hold my hand
I wanna contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I've been given

I sit and talk to God
And he just laughs at my plans
My head speaks a language
I don't understand

I just wanna feel real love
Feel the home that I live in
'Cause I got too much life
Running through my veins, going to waste

I don't wanna die
But I ain't keen on living either
Before I fall in love
I'm preparing to leave her

I scare myself to death
That's why I keep on running
Before I've arrived
I can see myself coming

I just wanna feel real love
Feel the home that I live in
'Cause I got too much life
Running through my veins, going to waste

And I need to feel
Real love
And a life ever after
I cannot give it up

I just wanna feel real love
Feel the home that I live in
I got too much love
Running through my veins, to go to waste

I just wanna feel real love
In a life ever after, there's a hole in my soul
You can see it in my face
It's a real big place

Come and hold my hand
I want to contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I've been given

Not sure I understand
Not sure I understand
Not sure I understand

Not sure I understand

Depeche Mode - Policy Of Truth

"Policy of Truth" is Depeche Mode's twenty-fifth UK single, released on 7 May 1990, and the third single for the album Violator.
The cover art for "Policy of Truth" has the blurred image of a nude woman. The camera angles and poses differ on the 7" Vinyl, the 12" Vinyl, the CD and Cassette. Usually each one has more than one. On the L12, there is a picture of a different woman.
Despite its success as a single, "Policy of Truth" was not included on the band's Best of, Volume 1 hits collection of 2006.
It is considered by many people as one of Depeche Mode's signature songs.
Although the song was less successful than the first two singles before, it is the only Depeche Mode single to chart higher on the Billboard Hot 100 (#15) than on the UK Singles Chart (#16), as well as peaking at number two on the American dance charts.
It also became the band's second chart-topper on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.
François Kevorkian mixed a new single version for the release, extending it slightly while lowering the tempo, and also making Dave Gahan's vocals more prominent. He also mixed the Beat Box Mix (the 12" version of the single mix) and the Pavlov's Dub.
The lyrics:
You had something to hide
Should have hidden it, shouldn't you?
Now you're not satisfied
With what you're being put through

It's just time to pay the price
For not listening to advice
And deciding in your youth
On the policy of truth

Things could be so different now
It used to be so civilized
You will always wonder how
It could have been if you'd only lied

It's too late to change events
It's time to face the consequence
For delivering the proof
In the policy of truth

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Now you're standing there tongue tied
You better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell

You'll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Never again
Is what you swore
The time before

Never again
Is what you swore

The time before

Van Halen - Runnin' with the Devil
"Runnin' with the Devil" is a rock song and the first track from Van Halen's 1978 eponymous debut album. The song lyrics were inspired by the Ohio Players song "Runnin' from the Devil".
  • In 2009 it was named the 9th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.
  • The song also sparked controversy at the time due to its title.
  • This is the first song on the first Van Halen album. It starts with a backwards blare of car horns, which was made by a contraption Eddie Van Halen put together using a bunch of horns, a car battery, and a footswitch. They used to use it when they played at clubs.
  • Van Halen included this song on a demo Gene Simmons produced for them in 1977. After seeing them in concert, Simmons flew the band to New York, bought them clothes, and set up a recording session. They didn't get a record deal out of it, but gained valuable experience.
  • Gene Simmons had the idea for the car horns at the beginning. He had the band do this on the 1977 "House Of Pain" demo he produced for them.
  • At one point, David Lee Roth says, "Goddamn it lady, you know I ain't lyin' too ya, I'm gonna tell you one time." Roth was never eloquent, but he was occasionally introspective (see "Hang 'Em High"), and even poetic (see "Secrets").
  • The song contains many of the things Van Halen became famous for - David Lee Roth's squeal, Eddie's guitar solo, and Michael Anthony's backup vocals.
  • Eddie's guitar is on the cover of the album. He pieced it together using parts of different guitars until he got the sound and feel he wanted. It is striped black and white on the album, but Eddie later painted it red.
  • This was easy for the band to record because they did not use many studio tricks. They pretty much recorded what they had been playing live for years. Later Van Halen albums became much more complicated.
  • Van Halen opened concerts for Journey and Black Sabbath after releasing this album, helping it sell over 5 million copies as more people found out about them.
  • This gets constant play on Classic Rock radio. It was not played a lot when it first came out because nobody had heard of Van Halen, so it was never burned out.
  • Adam Sandler pretends to play this with a Devil Horned blade he uses as a guitar at the beginning of the 2001 movie Little Nicky.
  • This bears a strong resemblance to Pink Floyd's similarly titled song "Run Like Hell," particularly in the intro (one note on the bass played over and over interrupted by a guitar with echo). Both songs were released within a year of each other, so it is probably just a coincidence.
  • The was used in the 2000 movie Ready To Rumble.
The lyrics:
Yeah, yeah, ah, yeah
I live my life like there's no tomorrow
And all I've got, I had to steal
Least I don't need to beg or borrow
Yes I'm livin' at a pace that kills

Ooh, yeah
(Ahh)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Ahh-hah, yeah)
(Woo-hoo-oo)
Runnin' with the Devil
Yes I'm, yeah, hoo

Ooh, you know I
I found the simple life ain't so simple
When I jumped out, on that road
I got no love, no love you'd call real
Ain't got nobody, waitin' at home

(Ahh, yeah)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Hold on, hold on I'm runnin' ah yeah)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Ooh ooh, one more time)

(Ha-yeah)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Oh, yeah, ya-yeah)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Woo, woo)
Runnin' with the Devil
(I'll tell you about it)

I found the simple life, it's so simple
When I jumped out, on that road
I got no love, no love you'd call real
Ain't got nobody, waitin' at home

(Ha-yeah)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Oh, yeah)
Runnin' with the Devil
(Ah-ha, yeah, ah-ha, yeah, ah-hah, yeah)

Runnin' with the Devil

Seneca

Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You

"Everything About You" is rock band Ugly Kid Joe's first hit.
It originally appeared on their 1991 EP, As Ugly as They Wanna Be.
It gained popularity after being featured in the 1992 hit film Wayne's World and was later included on the band's full-length debut album America's Least Wanted, which was also released in 1992. "Everything About You" was also featured in the Band Hero Nintendo DS soundtrack.
Song information
The difference between the original and the re-recorded version is that there is a spoken intro on the latter. The voice of actress Julia Sweeney, in the role of Pat, the overweight androgynous character that appeared on Saturday Night Live, appears at the beginning of the song, saying "Are you the guys on the beach that hate everything? Is this some sort of hip music that I don't understand?"
The song closes with the well-known couplet, Shave and a Haircut.
Music video
The music video for the song was directed by Thomas Mignone and features the band playing on a beach in Isla Vista, CA. Mignone spend the entirety of the video's budget on an assortment of inflatable love dolls purchased on the morning of the video shoot from a Hollywood Blvd adult shop en route to the beach location. A large tank of helium was "borrowed" from a nearby dentist's office and used to inflate the love dolls so that vocalist Whitfield Crane could fly them like kites at the beach. Filming was halted for several hours when the Federal Aviation Administration authorities arrived at the location and informed Mignone aircraft arriving and departing from nearby Santa Barbara Airport were complaining of nude love dolls in their flight paths. A sheepdog appears in multiple scenes, although filming had to be cut on repeated occasions as the dog could not restrain from urinating on the drum kit.
The lyrics:
I, hate the rain and sunny weather,
And I, hate the beach and mountains too
(And) I don't like a thing about the city, no, no
And I, I, I, hate the country side too!

And I, hate everything about you!
Everything about you!

I don't like a thing about your mother,
And I, I hate your daddy's guts too,
I don't like a thing about your sister, no, no
'Cause I, I, I, think sex is overrated too.

And I, get sick when I'm around,
I, can't stand to be around
I, hate everything about you!
Everything about you, everything about you,
Everything about you

Some say I got a bad attitude,
But that don't change the way I feel about you,
If you think all this might be bringing me down,
Look again cause I ain't wearin' no frown!

I don't really care about your sister
Forget the little bitch 'cause I already kissed her
One thing that I did to your lady
Put her on the bed and she didn't say maybe
I know you know everybody knows
The way it comes, the way it goes
You think it's sad well that's too bad
'Cause I'm havin' a ball and never cared a thing about
You

Everything about you, everything about you
I get sick when I'm around
I can't stand to be around

I hate everything about you
