Darius Rucker - All I Want (live)
Rucker penned this song with the American record producer and songwriter Frank Rogers ("I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)"). He recalled on his record label's website: "After we wrote this, I said to Frank Rogers, 'Do you love your wife?' and he said, 'Yeah!' He said, 'Do you love your wife?' and I said 'Yeah!' You would think it was written by two guys who weren't too happy with their wives. When we first started dating, my wife thought every song I wrote was about us. When she heard this, I thought she was going to say, 'You want a divorce?' which is the last thing I want. By the time we got to 'Leave Me Alone' in the chorus, she was on the floor laughing. Often you can write a song and only realize a few days later what it's about. There were a lot of people around me going through divorce – that's what triggered the idea."
The lyrics:
Don't act surprised, it ain't like you didn't know
It's been a long long time coming and it's time for me to go
Tryin' to split things up could drive us crazy
So I'm gonna make this easy, baby

You can have the money, you can have the house
Take the Cadillac and that boat out back
And your mother's pink and yellow couch
You can have every penny that I'll make from this here song
Girl all I want you to leave me is alone

Don't get me wrong I will always love you, girl
You were my life you were my heart, you were my world
But we both know it's over, there's no need to fight it
Girl I just need some peace and quiet

So you can have the money, you can have the house
Take the Cadillac and that boat out back
And that ugly pink and yellow couch
You can have every penny that I will make from this here song
Girl all I want you to leave me is alone

You can have the money, you can have the house
Take the big screen and your diamond ring
And those shoes that you swore you couldn't live without
You can have every penny that I will make from this here song
Girl all I want you to leave me is alone

Girl all I need you to leave me is alone

Jennifer Hanson - '73

Jennifer Hanson told AOL Music the story behind this song: " '73 is my story. It really kind of wrote itself. I was home a few summers back, and I was looking at an old photo album of pictures me when I was little.
My parents got divorced when I was six years old, but I found this picture of me, my mom and my dad when I was just a couple months old, and it was amazing to me how happy and in love they looked, because I don't remember them that way.
And as I was looking through this photo album, I was kind of looking at my life unfolding before me: Once they got divorced, then it's me with my mom at Christmas time, and Christmas with my dad, and then my brother came along.
My dad went on to remarry and have two more children, and there were no pictures of the three of us together until I graduated from high school. And it just really put everything in perspective.
Like that one decision - them not staying together - changed the whole course of my life. But what I realized is I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm so grateful of I'm where I'm at. That's the path I was supposed to be on. And there are people that wouldn't be in my life had they stayed together, like my brother and my sister. I've been amazed how many people have responded to that song.
They come up to me and say, 'That's my story,' even though it's my story. They relate to it, because they've lived that, too. That's all you can hope to do as an artist and a writer is touch people."
The lyrics:
Southern California, standin' in the drive
A picture perfect moment, frozen in time
Mom holdin' dad, dad holdin' me in '73

There's me in that striped dress, beneath the Big Boy sign
Bottom of the Polaroid says fall of '79
Yeah, that's the night that Dad tried to explain to me
Why he had to leave

Everythin changes, hey, that's reality
Sometimes I wonder how all our lives would be
If they'd a stayed in love like they were in '73

Here's pictures openin' presents, December '83
Some with mom and some with dad, two different Christmas trees
And there's me and my new half brother
In his baby blue outfit, winter '86

Mom and I, we both survived those awkward teenage years
Graduation '91, dad flew back to be there
There's me in my cap and gown
Standin' between them, the three of us again

Everythin changes, hey, that's reality
Sometimes I wonder how all our lives would be
If they'd a stayed in love

Everythin changes, hey, that's reality
Sometimes I wonder how all our lives would be
If they'd 'a stayed in love like they were in '73

Cassadee Pope - 11

Cassadee Pope has shared another song, 11, from her ‘Frame by Frame‘ album.
The autobiographical tune, she says, explores one of the most painful parts of her life — her parents’ divorce.
“As a kid, when you go through something like your parents’ divorce, weird things go through your mind and you have no control,” the singer explains.
11 has me opening up probably more than I’ve ever done before.”
Pope, who wrote the song with veteran songwriter Nathan Chapman, says she is using her new solo career to reveal parts of her own life she hasn’t been able to share, until now.
“As a songwriter, I’ve always loved to tell stories,” she tells Rolling Stone magazine. “But in my band, it was always about what would make sense for a band to put out. It’s hard to release a song that’s so personal to me when there’s four other guys in the band that had completely different upbringings. Now I can get really personal.”
Pope, who had a blossoming pop rock career before winning Season 3 of ‘The Voice’ on Blake Shelton‘s team, insists her former coach didn’t push her to switch to country music. “He didn’t make me [sing country music]. People misconstrue that,” says the 24-year-old singer. “He never pushed me to do anything, and that’s what I loved about him. Blake picks really unique artists who already have a vision for themselves. He just wants to be the platform that helps them get to where they need to be.”
The lyrics:
Seven years old, everything was right
A table for four on a Friday night
Didn't see any signs of a dead end road
By the time I was ten everything was changing
Fell asleep every night praying
Didn't know which way to go

Momma did her best to hide her anger
And I did my best to try and save her

I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come
When dad would drive away and take his love with him
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl
I can see her now, innocent and seven
I wish I had never turned eleven

We moved into a smaller house
How mama did it, oh I don't know how
Never went to bed without eating
At thirteen I finally realized what it means to get on with your life
Well daddy sure did and he made it look easy

Mama did her best to hide the struggle
And I did my best to stay out of trouble

I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come
When dad would drive away and take his love with him
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl
I can see her now, innocent and seven
I wish I had never turned eleven

I wish that I could turn back time and tell myself it'll be alright, you're never gonna lose the light in your eyes.

I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come
So I grew up fast in a whole new world
Waved goodbye to that little girl
I can see her now, innocent and seven
I wish I had never turned eleven

I wish I had never turned eleven.

Laura Bell Bundy - Between Me and You

Laura Bell Bundy is known for her roles in stage productions like Hairspray and Legally Blonde - The Musical, and also for her breakout album Achin' and Shakin', which she released in 2010.
When we spoke with Bundy in 2010, we asked her about "Between Me and You," which is a track on her debut album. Bundy said: "What I had been going through for the last couple of years is well represented on Achin' & Shakin'.
What I'm doing now is I'm going back into the time of those memories of childhood, the feelings I had about my parents' divorce. I'm dealing with all that, maybe it's because I started therapy, but I'm dealing with a lot of stuff. But 'Between Me and You' is about my parents.
And about the ending of a relationship, basically.
When I sing it I get very emotional. 'Between Me and You' is I'm making love to memories and pictures on the wall."
Having trouble finding this album? Bundy told us: "The label, Universal, asked me to take it off iTunes while they released this new album. At some point I'm going to put it back out. But it's one of those things you kind of sit there and go, I produced that album, I wrote that album, I own that album. But I don't really want people to be confused. I feel like I'm a different person than I was then. I'm a different writer, I'm a different singer, and I just feel different. And so I'm kind of okay with it. But I'm gonna re-mix it and re-release it at some point."
The lyrics:
What good is marriage when you're lonely all the time?
And I bet you'd see a stranger if you'd ever look into my eyes.
What good is a heart when it's broken right in two?
We did, now we don't...
And, I wonder why I said "I do."

Chorus:
I'd go on and leave you, but there's a little one to answer to.
He's my baby and he's yours, too
And he's all the love that's left between me and you.

I'm making love to memories, in pictures on the wall.
When you were clear and present .... Of happy timestogether before I was invisible.

Chorus (repeat)

When it was good, it was great. You give too little, too late.
And you don't even know who I've become.
But no matter what we've lost, his future's worth the cost
I'll sacrifice cause he's the one I love.

I'd go on and leave you, but there's a little one to answer to.
He's the best thing we'll ever do.
And he's all the love that's left between me and you.

Cause he's all the love that's left between me and you.

Margareta Pogonat a murit

ABBA - The Winner Takes It All

ABBA member Bjorn Ulvaeus wrote this after separating from wife and fellow band member, Agnetha Fältskog.
It's about a divorce where one person doesn't want to separate and clings desperately to the marriage.
It put Agnetha in the strange spot of being asked to sing a breakup song written by her ex-husband.
Ulvaeus didn't intend it this way. He explained: "I sang a demo of it myself which a lot of people liked and said, you have to sing that. But I saw the sensible thing of course, it had to go to Agnetha. I remember coming to the studio with it and everyone said, Oh this is great, wonderful It was strange hearing her singing it. It was more like an actress doing something when she sang it, but deeply moving. Afterwards there were a few tears as well."
Bjorn has said that while he usually didn't use drugs or alcohol while writing, he had a bottle of brandy next to him while writing the lyrics for this song. It was very personal to him.
He told The London Times March 26, 2010: "Usually it's not a good idea to write when you're drunk, but it all came out on that one. By the time I wrote 'The gods may throw their dice' the bottle was empty."
Ulvaeus claimed that 90% of this song is fiction, which is why he didn't feel too bad about having his ex-wife sing it.
Said Ulvaeus: "I had this image of a man walking through an empty house with all the furniture removed for the last time as the symbol of divorce and just describing what I see."
The lyrics:
I don't wanna talk
About the things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history

I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence

Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The Gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear

The winner takes it all
(Takes it all)
The loser has to fall
(Has to fall)
It's simple and it's plain
(Yes, it's plain)
Why should I complain?
(Why complain?)

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name

Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide
(Decide)
The likes of me abide
(Abide)
Spectators of the show
(of the Show)
Always staying low
(Staying low)

The game is on again
(All again)
A lover or a friend
(Or a friend)
A big thing or a small
(Big or small)
The winner takes it all
(Takes it all)

I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand

I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see

The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all

Someone winner
Takes it all
And one loses
Has to fall

From a guide
From the side
Makes that feeling
Someone here

Takes it all
Has to fall
This is magic

Someone here

Natasha St-Pier - Tu Trouveras
"Tu trouveras" (English translation: "You Will Find") is the name of a 2002 song recorded by the Canadian singer Natasha St-Pier, composed by Pascal Obispo and written by Lionel Florence.
It was released as the first single from her third album, De l'amour le mieux, on which it features as first track.
The song became a top three hit in France and Belgium (Wallonia) and was much aired on radio, remaining to date St-Pier's most successful single in terms of sales.
The music was written by famous composer Lionel Florence, and composed by French singer Pascal Obispo who also participated in the production of the song.
It deals with a love relationship in which St-Pier admits her mistakes and her weaknesses. The words "Tu trouveras", which are sung in the refrain, are performed by Pascal Obispo, and therefore the song is generally considered as a duet, even though almost all of the lyrics are sung by Natasha St.-Pier.
They performed the song in many French TV programs.
The song features on many French compilations, such as Les Plus Belles Ballades, Les Plus Beaux Duos, Non Stop Hits 4, Les Plus Belles Voix, vol. 1, Hitbox 2002 Best of, vol. 4 and Hit de diamant.
Christophe Maé covered the song included in a medley named "Mister Restos 2008" on Les Enfoirés' 2008 album Le Secret des Enfoirés.
The lyrics:

(refrain)
Tu trouveras...
Tu me restes

Dido - Don't think of me

Don't Think of Me is a song by Dido.
It was released as the second single from her debut album, No Angel, exclusively in the United States.
The single was released on 19 February 2000, however, was serviced to radio in December 1999, two months before the official release.
The single gained enough airplay to peak at #35 on the Adult Top 40 in May 2000.
The lyrics:
So you're with her not with me, I hope she's sweet and so pretty
I hear she cooks delightfully, a little angel beside you
So you're with her and not with me, oh how lucky one man can be
I hear your house is small and clean
Oh how lovely with your home coming queen
Oh how lovely it must be

When you see her sweet smile baby, don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms, don't think of me

So you're with her not with me, I know she spreads sweet honey
In fact your best friend, I heard he spent last night with her
Now how do you feel, how do you feel

When you see her sweet smile baby, don't think of me
When she lays in your warm arms, don't think of me
And it's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me
And it's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me

Does it bother you now all the mess I made
Does it bother you now the clothes you told me not to wear
Does it bother you now all the angry games we played
Does it bother you now when I'm not there

When you see her sweet smile baby, don't think of me
And when she lays in your warm arms, don't think of me
And it's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me

And it's too late and it's too bad, don't think of me

Terence Trent D'Arby - Wishing Well

Wishing Well is a song by Terence Trent D'Arby.
The second single from the 1987 album Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, the song reached number one on both the Soul Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 on May 7, 1988.
"Wishing Well" was certified "Gold", indicating sales of 500,000, by the Recording Industry Association of America in October 1991.
Written by D'Arby and Sean Oliver, D'Arby said "Wishing Well" was written "when I was in a half-asleep, half-awake state of mind", and that he "liked the feel of the words".
Martyn Ware of Heaven 17 paired with D'Arby in production of the song, which was released on CBS Records.
Once released, "Wishing Well", along with D'Arby's debut single "If You Let Me Stay", went into "heavy rotation" on MTV.
D'Arby performed the song live at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards, where he lost the Grammy Award for Best New Artist to Jody Watley.
When the single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, it had charted for 17 weeks, which made it the slowest song to reach number one since "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" in 1983.
Ben Greenman of The New Yorker credits "Wishing Well", along with other D'Arby songs, with "bringing soul music into the eighties".
Writing about D'Arby for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine called the song "sparse funk", and noted how "Wishing Well" was his first major hit in the United States.
Kathi Whalen of The Washington Post credited the song's chart success to D'Arby's combination of "'60s soul and pop on top", and called "Wishing Well" "bouncy".
The song appears in Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City's fictional radio station Vice City FM.
The lyrics:
Kissing like a bandit stealing time
Underneath the sycamore tree
Cupid by the hour sends valentines
To my sweet lover and me

Slowly but surely
Yours appetite is more than I knew
Sweetly, softly
I'm falling in love with you

Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of butterfly tear
Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of crocodile cheers

Hugging like a monkey see, monkey do
Right beside a riverboat gambler
Erotic images float through my head
I wanna be your midnight rambler

Quickly but quickly
The blood races through my veins
Quickly, loudly
I wanna hear those sugar bells ring

Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of butterfly tears
Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of crocodile cheers

Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of butterfly tear, come on
Wish me love a wishing well to kiss and tell
A wishing well of crocodile cheers

I feel like going on
I feel like going on
Come on, come on
Erotic images float through my head
Your midnight rambler, baby

Take it
For you anywhere
I don't know I don't care
But all those years

I wanna be your midnight rambler, baby
